January 29, 2020: ISD 318 Board will enter into negotiations with Matt Grose for Superintendent
After two day-long interviews with finalists that included focus groups with students, staff, and community members, the ISD 318 School Board will enter into negotiations with Matt Grose for Superintendent.
“We’re very pleased to have Matt as a part of our team. We have an exciting school year ahead of us and think Matt will do a great job leading the district through it and beyond,” said School Board Chair Pat Medure.
Grose is currently the Superintendent of Deer River and Nashwauk-Keewatin School Districts, as well as the director of the Itasca Area Schools Collaborative. Prior to serving as Superintendent of Deer River, he was the high school principal. Grose started his educational career as a high school math and computer science teacher in Centennial School District.
“It will be bittersweet to leave the amazing people I’ve worked with and the fulfilling work I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of in Deer River and Nashwauk-Keewatin, but I look forward to working with the ISD #318 School Board, administration, staff, and community to help the district achieve its goals, improve achievement, build culture and increase opportunities for all students,” said Grose
The 318 School Board expects to approve Grose’s contract at the next Board Meeting on February 10. Grose will begin his tenure as Superintendent on July 1, but will spend the next months getting to know the district better and aiding in the hiring of the Business Manager and GRHS Principal.
The Superintendent Search process, which began in October, was guided by School Exec Connect. The consultant team met with 13 focus groups and reviewed 514 surveys to assess the strengths and challenges facing the district, along with the characteristics necessary in a new Superintendent. That information was used to create a Superintendent Search Profile. The firm received 20 completed applications for the position and used the search profile to narrow the field to six candidates. The six candidates were interviewed by the School Board on January 21 and 24 and two finalists were selected to be presented in community interviews.
