The 318 School Board and Administration have set Social and Emotional Learning as a district initiative for the 2019-2020 School Year. This multi-year process is based on the definition by The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL).
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. - CASEL
ISD 318 SEL Guiding Principles
Vision: ISD 318 is committed to creating a community of lifelong learners where each person feels safe, valued, and respected.
Mission: To guide students and provide them with tools to develop healthy relationships, resiliency, compassion, and self-awareness for lifelong success.
Beliefs:
- A positive school community where students are held accountable and their achievements celebrated is the foundation for all social-emotional learning (SEL).
- Social-emotional learning is built on the pillars of relationship skills, self-awareness, responsible decision-making, self-management, and social awareness.
- All students need a balance of academic and social-emotional learning.
- Social-emotional learning is best accomplished when the entire school community works with students and families to contribute to the ongoing development of SEL skills.
SEL Implementation is a process being guided by our SEL Team Members. Click here to view a list of our members. Please reach out to members in your building if you have questions.
