318 Board Selects Mark Schroeder as Interim Director

At the ISD 318 Board Meeting on July 19, the School Board approved former Grand Rapids High School Principal Mark Schroeder to serve as an Interim School Board Director. Schroeder will serve as an Interim Board Member until a special election is held on November 2 to fill the vacancy left by Sue Zeige’s June resignation.

“Mark will bring a lot of experience to the table. We know he will be able to get up to speed quickly and ably represent our stakeholders. He understands our students, our staff, and our community. Mark’s knowledge of the district is especially important since this is only a two-month appointment,” said School Board Chair Malissa Bahr.

Schroeder will be formally seated at the School Board meeting held on September 7, following the 30-day waiting period required by state statute. The position will be filled on a long-term basis by a special election held on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.

Schroeder has a long history with ISD 318. Prior to retiring from his position as lead principal at GRHS in June 2020, Schroeder served as the principal at Bigfork School and a science teacher at GRHS. In his last year at GRHS, Schroeder was chosen as the Northeast Division’s High School Principal of the Year by the Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) because of his excellent qualities of leadership.
