Noble Hall Field Committee Presents School Board with $700,000
On Monday, June 1, Mindy Nuhring and Tom Saxhaug, co-chairs of the Noble Hall Field Improvement Committee, presented the ISD 318 School Board with a check for $700,000. The payment represents a year-long fundraising campaign to add turf to Noble Hall Field.
“We are so excited that we were able to raise the money needed for this project and present this check to the school district. AND to have the project completed before the start of the 2020-2021 school year,” said Nuhring. “A huge thank you to all the organizations and individuals that donated to this project – we are looking forward to seeing local youth and community playing and practicing on this field!”
In 2018, the School District presented a two-part facilities improvement plan, asking the community to approve a referendum to build new elementary schools, to add turf to three fields at Grand Rapids High School, and to add a weight room and locker room facilities at Bigfork School. Ballot Question 2 for $5.1 million for the addition to Bigfork and turf for three fields did not pass.
Following the ballot measure, community members approached the district with a plan to raise funds to turf Noble Hall Field and to add new locker rooms, a community weight room and Edge Center storage at Bigfork School. If the community could raise half of the projected costs for each project, the school district would fund the remaining half.
Following a year of community meetings and fundraising, the Noble Hall Field Improvement Committee has surpassed its goal of $650,000.
“The Noble Hall Field Improvement Committee would like to thank the ISD 318 Community for its tremendous outpouring of support for turfing the field. This project will benefit our kids for many years to come,” said Saxhaug.
“We are grateful to the community for being creative in finding ways to enhance opportunities for our kids,” said Superintendent Sean Martinson. “By turfing Noble Hall Field, we will be able to move from just 40 uses per year to over 240 events held on the field. That is all thanks to our community.”
The turf project is expected to be completed in time for the beginning of 2020-2021 Fall Activities. Fundraising continues for the Bigfork project. For more information about the Bigfork fundraising project, contact Tim Johnson at email@example.com.
