ISD 318 Announces Elementary School Boundaries
Parents to receive placement letters in early April
The ISD 318 School Board heard a presentation on the elementary school boundaries at the March 16 School Board meeting. The boundaries will define attendance areas for Cohasset, East Rapids, and West Rapids Elementary Schools.
“The boundary committee worked hard to create attendance areas that created equity among grade levels and socio-economic status and also took into account our current open enrollment students,” said Interim Superintendent Sean Martinson.

ISD 318 Board Approves New Elementary School Names
The new schools will be named West Rapids and East Rapids Elementaries
The public spoke, and the 318 School Board listened. In an overwhelming majority, the community chose East Rapids and West Rapids as the names for the two new elementary schools in Grand Rapids and the Board approved those names at the February 10 School Board Meeting.
“We are thankful for everyone who took the time to participate in the voting,” said Board Chair Pat Medure. “The response was incredible.” The district received over 2,000 votes on the new names.

Elementary Schools Update Summary
The two new Grand Rapids elementary schools and the remodeled Cohasset Elementary School are slated for opening in time for the 2020-2021 School Year.
“We are very excited to be able to open the schools ahead of schedule,” said ISD 318 Interim Superintendent Sean Martinson. “Moving forward in preparation for next school year allows our kids and staff to take advantage of updated learning spaces even sooner than anticipated.”

Noble Hall Field Improvement Project to Move Forward
318 Board authorizes call for bids for turf project
After months of fundraising, the Noble Hall Field Improvement Project Committee has reached its goal of $700,000 and the project will begin to move forward.
In April 2018, ISD 318 asked the community for funding to turf Noble Hall Field, the GRHS Practice/Lacrosse Game Field, and Legion Baseball Field, as well as a locker room and additional improvements at Bigfork School. “Although a majority of people in Grand Rapids supported the measure, the ballot question did not pass,” said Interim Superintendent Sean Martinson. “But, the need remained the same. GRHS has had a shortage of fields since boys and girls soccer and boys and girls lacrosse were added.”

Public Input Sought for Grand Rapids Elementary School Names
Community will help finalize school names
The ISD 318 community is invited to share their choices for the finalists in the Grand Rapids elementary school naming process at www.surveymonkey.com/r/318ElemNameFinalist.
In December, the 318 Elementary Naming Committee asked the public to submit their suggestions for new elementary school names. Names were submitted via interviews, online, and in K-12 classrooms. After reviewing all submissions, the committee narrowed the suggestions in accordance with the district naming policy and then worked together to create a list of five pairs of recommendations.

Construction set to wrap up early August 2020
Even with a wet and chilly fall, construction on the new elementary schools and the remodeled Cohasset Elementary School are slated for opening in time for the 2020-2021 School Year.

318 Residents to See Savings on Elementary School Construction
On Monday, June 4, the ISD 318 School Board secured a bond for the construction of the East & West Elementary schools and renovation of Cohasset Elementary at lower rate than anticipated. In the process of planning for the referendum, the district had planned for a bond interest rate of 4.25%. However, due to favorable economic conditions and the excellent bond rating of the district, the bond was secured at an interest rate of just 3.37%

Voters approve ballot to build two new elementary schools and renovate Cohasset Elementary
Last night voters approved Ballot Question 1 for $68.9 million to build two new elementary schools and renovate Cohasset Elementary. Ballot Question 2 for $5.1 million for an addition to Bigfork for a locker room and weight room and turf for three fields did not pass. Returns by precinct will be available following a meeting of the County Canvassing Board.
