Public Input Sought for Grand Rapids Elementary School Names
Community will help finalize school names
The ISD 318 community is invited to share their choices for the finalists in the Grand Rapids elementary school naming process at www.surveymonkey.com/r/318ElemNameFinalist.
In December, the 318 Elementary Naming Committee asked the public to submit their suggestions for new elementary school names. Names were submitted via interviews, online, and in K-12 classrooms. After reviewing all submissions, the committee narrowed the suggestions in accordance with the district naming policy and then worked together to create a list of five pairs of recommendations.
“We appreciated all of the suggestions honoring individuals,” said Interim Superintendent Sean Martinson. “However, the committee felt it difficult to choose just two people out of all the great suggestions. Instead, the names focus on nature or landmark features that can also be represented in Ojibwe.”
The naming survey will close on Friday, January 24, 2020. Recommendations will be tallied and presented to the School Board on February 10 for final selection.
