Creative Learning at Murphy Elementary
Legos, iPads, and excited chattering - it’s not what everyone expects to see when they enter a school library. But that’s exactly what’s happening in the Media Center at Murphy Elementary.
With the help of the ISD 318 Endowment Fund and Murphy Principal Sean Martinson, Amy Savela, the Media Specialist for Murphy Elementary School, has created a makerspace in the media center that allows for the kids to work together to learn, collaborate and share. “The Murphy Makerspace is a creative space where making mistakes and learning from them is encouraged,” said Savela.

Key Club Kicks Off Year with Blood Drive
Visitors to GRHS on Monday, September 25, 2018 saw the Memorial Blood Center bus with a familiar face on it. The newest addition to the Memorial Blood Center fleet features a smiling Katie Thunshelle, GRHS math teacher and Key Club advisor, on its side.
Once the recipient of 23 units of blood during a lifesaving surgery, Thunshelle has transformed that frightening experience and now coordinates regular blood drives at the high school. “To most people, blood donation is taking an hour out of their day and an anonymous recipient,” said Thunshelle. To me, those 23 anonymous people - students missing a class, someone on their lunch break, a retiree - meant the difference between life and death. Without people stepping up in advance, I wouldn’t be here as a mom, wife, and teacher today!”
