Bigfork students benefit from Perpich Arts Grant
Earlier this school year, Bigfork teachers were awarded an arts integration grant from Perpich Center for the Arts Education. Using these funds, teacher teams create new curriculum that infuses academics and the arts in ways that the participants believe will help to increase learning, heighten student interest and build community in their schools.
This week, Bigfork students experienced that infusion for themselves when they interviewed community members with a project called “A Sense of Place.” Kids in 7th, 8th, 11th, and 12th grades met with elders in their area to learn more about their lives.
The kids were exposed to real life heroes and dramas the likes of which are found in story books. This heartwarming experience linked the generations together, giving everyone involved a true sense of the amazing place in which they live.
