Kat Perkins Brings Message of Bravery to RJEMS
Over 1,200 cheering and screaming middle school kids were inspired to “Dream it, do it” when Kat Perkins capped off the first week of school with a personalized visit. Perkins, a semi-finalist on season six of NBC’s The Voice, shared her story of fearlessness, encouraging kids in the audience to try for the same.
“I was so excited to have Kat speak to our students,” said 7th grade teacher Carol Digby. “She is so successful and inspirational. What a great way to end our first amazing week back to school.”
Kat shared the story of her journey from a small town to television and the adversity she conquered along the way. Kids in the audience cheered Kat as she defined fear as False Expectations Appearing Real. “That feeling [mistaken as fear] is excitement. You should move towards it!” exclaimed Kat. “What you’re talking about is just doubt. Doubt is the evil cousin of fear...and sometimes everything you ever want is on the other side of doubt.”
“Kat’s message resonated with kids. I think they’re equipped with new tools to conquer this school year and be successful,” said Digby.
Kat’s visit was made possible by a grant from Thrivent Financial. “The Grand Rapids community is tremendously supportive,” finished Digby.
