Welcome Superintendent Olson!

date 07/24/2017 author ISD #318 category In Our Schools, Looking to the future comment Leave a comment

We'd like to welcome Mrs. Joni Olson as the Superintendent for District 318.

Olson was most recently the Executive Director of Student Achievement and Strategic Alignment for St. Cloud Area Schools. She began her educational career serving in multi-district and school special education programs. She has been an administrator for St. Cloud Area Schools for 19 years, first as an assistant principal, then as a principal and most recently as an executive director.

"I’m thrilled to be joining the team in ISD 318 and have been so impressed with the warm welcome from the district, staff and community,” said Olson. "I am very excited about the excellent opportunities provided to students in ISD 318. Students have a wide range of academic and activity options from which to select. There is something to meet the interests of all students in the district."

Mrs. Olson was born in Silver Bay, Minnesota and moved to St. Cloud to attend St. Cloud State University where she studied social work and sociology. Her master's degree and certification in educational administration were also from St. Cloud State University. Mrs. Olson received her superintendent's licensure from St. Mary's University.

Mrs. Olson underwent a rigorous interview process before being selected as Superintendent. Six semi-finalists in the Superintendent Search were chosen from a candidate pool of 22 applicants. The School Board will met with those over two days for interviews. Of the six, three finalists were chosen for a second round of interviews.

The finalists participated in a full day of interviews, meeting in focus groups with principals, district administration, high school students, support staff, teachers, and community members, before a final interview each evening with the School Board. Participants in the focus groups spent an hour with each candidate asking questions about their background, experience, and philosophy. Feedback forms from each focus group were provided to Board members and helped the School Board make a final decision at the end of the week.

It takes us all!

Thank You Community Partners!

As the school year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on how many individuals and organizations invest their time in our schools. We are so thankful for the parent volunteers helping out at events like Art Nights and Post-Prom Parties, chaperoning field trips, and bringing their expertise into our classrooms.

We are also fortunate in our amazing community partners. Volunteers from the DNR help teach kids about forestry and partner in real life conservation projects. Bridges Kinship Mentoring organizes volunteers to meet with kids and show them adults are interested in their experiences. Kids take trips to Second Harvest every year to help give back to their community and learn about those less fortunate in our community. Local businesses encourage their employees to volunteer on a regular basis. And, volunteers from organizations across the county came together for a fantastic day of learning with last month’s Water Day. The list goes on and on!

All of you are helping our kids achieve a great education and exposing them to fantastic opportunities and experiences every year. Volunteers are enhancing education each and every day throughout the school year. We are so thankful for the impact you’ve made for kids and hope to see you next year!

Parent Portal Changes

We’re hard at work to make things easier for families. Our latest change is to make access to Parent Portal easier for you.

Beginning in July, parents and guardians will be able to reset their own passwords. Current passwords for Parent Portal will remain the same, but now if you forget your password you can request a new one be sent immediately via email. The system will work much like any forgotten password option.

To ensure that password information is accessible, families are asked to keep their contact information up-to-date. Users must have a valid email address on file in order to reset a password.

New accounts will continue to be set up by the Enrollment Office. Account request forms are available on the district website at isd318.org, or by calling 218-327-5707.
