We want to invite you to the annual RJEMS Veterans Day Program on November 10 at 1:30 pm. The annual program is a way for students to honor veterans in Itasca County. It will include performances from the RJEMS band and choir, student thank you's, and a tribute wall. The event is being planned by the RJEMS Student Council.

When asked what made the event so important, Alexis O'Rourke, a member of the Veterans Day planning committee said, "we want to honor the local veterans and show our appreciation for the veterans that risked their lives for our freedom."

The planning committee is made up of Dagan Larson, Audrey Fillbrandt, Rylee Pace, Shara Venditto, Lauren Barsness, Dylan Haynes, Claire Schroeder, Alexis O'Rourke, and Selah Smith.

Hope you can join us!

Elementary Facilities Taskforce

date 02/28/2017 author ISD #318 category Events comment Leave a comment

By the numbers.png

The district is struggling to meet the needs of our elementary population and we need your help. We are leasing space throughout Grand Rapids and own or lease a total of 14 temporary classrooms. That's more than the number of classrooms at Cohasset Elementary!

To help find a solution, Mindy Nuhring and Kent Koerbitz are chairing a taskforce that will "develop a community-based plan for Grand Rapids area elementary schools." The EFT is not a vote-yes

or -no group, but one filling an advisory role of providing information about elementary facilities that will best fit the community's needs.

The next taskforce meeting will take place on Tuesday, March 7th from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Reif Center.

The EFT will consist of three committees. The Communications & Outreach Committee will involve and educate the public. The Finance Committee will put together the best investment for the taxpayer. And, the Facilities Committee will examine community, student, and staff needs. Together, committee members will create a plan for the future of our elementary schools.

Committee members are asked to attend four to five formal meetings for one to two hours each with some subcommittee work as needed. The process will be completed by June 1st, with the Taskforce's recommendation being presented to the School Board on June 26.

"We benefit when we invest in our schools in a cost-effective and efficient manner with clear outcomes as defined by the community," explained Kent.

Celebrate the holidays with Children First!

date 11/15/2016 author ISD #318 category Events comment Leave a comment

We know how busy you get during the holiday season, but we have some great reasons to take time out to celebrate with family and community. Children First! and Itasca Area Community Education have a ton of fun, free events that everyone will enjoy.

SantaLights-newbackgroundjpg.jpg

The fun starts up in Bigfork with Gingerbread Galore. On December 1st, your family can decorate a gingerbread train, play gingerbread games, and make gingerbread crafts at Bigfork School.

Then on Friday, December 2nd, Santa will make his annual visit to Light the Lights at Central School as part of the Winter Glow Festival. In addition to Santa, kids can meet Chippy and take home a free Project READ book, and the whole family can enjoy the carolers and take part in carriage rides.

The fun will still be going strong with the Family Craft Time: Christmas Ornaments event at Breaktime Craft Studio on Monday, December 5th. Together, you’ll create a lasting memento of a great holiday season! The event is free, but space and supplies are limited. Register online at getlearning.org or call 327-5730.

And you won’t want to miss Ho-Ho-Ho Country Christmas at the Children’s Discovery Museum. On December 10th, the night will be filled with wagon rides, a visit from Santa, games, holiday crafts, music, and more!

For more information about these events and all the great opportunities for fun, see the complete holiday flyer.

End of the year celebrations!

date 06/15/2016 author ISD #318 category Events comment Leave a comment

As June 3 approached, students started looking forward to the endless, unstructured days of summer. But schools still had plenty of learning to do (mixed in with a healthy dose of fun), and our parents and volunteers were all on hand to help!

We want to take a moment to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who helped make the end of year celebrations and learning opportunities so special for kids. Volunteers worked tirelessly to make special moments, memories, and lessons for kids.

TY.jpg

Volunteers organized games and dance parties, popped endless amounts of popcorn, helped with lip sync competitions, and supervised bouncy houses for elementary fun days. They were on hand to teach kids about one of our most precious resources on Water Day. Parents and volunteers cheered kids on and timed events at 6th Grade Track and Field Day. Volunteers helped keep excited kids focused on educational field trips, organized post prom parties and fishing trips, and so much more! In short, there’s just so much that couldn’t happen without the help of volunteers!

Be sure to check out some of the magic they brought to kids on our Facebook page and in our YouTube videos.

You're invited to the Endowment Fundraiser

date 06/15/2016 author ISD #318 category Events comment Leave a comment

FundraiserLogo.jpg

You’re invited to the annual 318 Endowment Fundraiser Dinner and Silent Auction! This year, the theme is All that Jazz and will feature performances from the GRHS Jazz Ensemble and Sam Miltich & Friends on Thursday, February 11 at the Timberlake Lodge. Celebrate Valentine’s Day and support kids in our community all at one fantastic event!

JazzBand-2.jpg

The Endowment works hard to provide additional funding to students and teachers independent of the school budget to enhance the education of kids in our schools. And when you join them, you help support that mission.

This fall, the Endowment provided over $13,000 in supplemental funding to enhance our kids’ education. With that money, math students at Bigfork School will use digital cameras to explore geometry concepts using art, kids at Murphy Elementary will learn about engineering concepts using LEGO kits, girls at RJEMS will start a book club, GRHS students will be able to create engaging videos using their new Green Screen Room, and more!

If you are unable to attend the event, please consider contributing a silent auction item. All proceeds from the event go right back into the classroom. The ISD 318 Endowment Fund is a nonprofit organization and all donations and contributions are tax deductible.

For more information about the Endowment or the Fundraiser, please visit their brand new website at https://sites.google.com/site/318endowmentfund.
